vol. 5:
The West Coast (via Boston)
(LA & San Francisco & Seattle, Jul 2016)
When you arrive in Boston, you’ll have a few options for sleeping spaces. Beware the room on the 1.5th floor. This is the room of chairs, and those who lie cradled in their arms sleep for many years.
Consensually objectifying this guy since 2012.

“Mere light is too common a thing to make a strong impression on the mind, and without a strong impression nothing can be sublime…”
Hopped in a bus from LAX ;;
Los Angeles, you have a water crisis. Stop that, LA.
Near the top of the mountain, we found a young couple breaking up. One of them clearly didn’t realize where this hike was going ;;
As we turned to keep going, a boy in a white shirt leaned in for that soft and painful kiss ;; the rest of the world took pictures of the city below and pretended kindly not to see.

Hiking up the mountain, we joked about how useful an observatory could really be, perched above a city made of so much light and smog. Rose, we were wrong. It was so beautiful, and that pendulum swinging while the earth just turns calmly below. Wow. We saw a show, discovered ourselves in the cosmos, and then emerged blinking into the night. The whole of LA lit up below us.

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)
and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles,and
milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;
and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and
may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.
For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea

After Griffith J Griffith finished farming ostrich feathers, after he was done grifting land out like watches, after the donation of his leftover land to the city and the inception of the park, after Mr. J Griffith failed to finish his wife off but did succeed in shooting her, after the prison term, the suggestion of an observatory, a Greek amphitheater, a planetarium, a girl’s camp and a boy’s camp, after the city decided, “Hmm, better not get into bed with a man who shot his wife,” after they waited until his death to fund his projects, after trees grew and died, after the smog came as if squeezed out of some djinn’s lamp, b and I watched after a sweaty hike the sun set and the earth calmly turn below.
